Environmental Specialist (Housekeeper)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and manual cleaning tasks to maintain a clean environment for patients and personnel in Hawaii Care Choices facilities.

  • Performs duties in accordance to Hawaii Care Choices policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.

  • Provides friendly and courteous service at all times when interacting with patients and their families.

  • Cleaning tasks include but not limited to stripping dirty linens, washing and drying, vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, mopping, making beds, cleaning bathrooms and counters and moving furniture.

  • Operates cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, mops, carts, brooms, washer, dryer and other various cleaning equipment and tools.

  • Use of various cleaning supplies and detergents.

  • Assist with other tasks as assigned.

Skill & Knowledge Requirements

  • Ability to learn, follow and enforce standards of cleanliness as it is related to the position.

  • Able to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Able to read, write and understand written instructions as it relates to the position.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

  • Prior experience as a housekeeper in a healthcare facility preferred.

  • Knowledge of practices, tools and equipment used in janitorial work.

  • Able to read, write and understand oral and written instructions.

  • Valid drivers license.


  • Primarily Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with possibility of evening, weekend and holiday work.

  • Assists in maintaining the 24 hour on-call coverage as needed.
