Position Summary:

Hawaii Care Choices Nurse Apprenticeship Program supports new graduate nurses as they transition from the classroom to the nursing profession. Our one-year program provides new graduates a supportive framework, blended with opportunities for continued learning experiences to build cognitive and critical thinking skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Nurse Apprenticeship program is a one-year program designed to facilitate the transition of the newly graduated nurse or registered nurse with less than one-year acute care experience into the work setting. Program highlights include (time commitment will vary according to unit specialty)

  • —Classroom training

  • —Hands-on learning

  • —Simulation Lab

  • —Interaction with preceptors and clinical end of life care nurses

  • —Continued education throughout the year

  • —Nurse Apprenticeship positions are available

  • —Some specialty areas will have a more detailed orientation with increased time and commitment

  • —Continued training and mentoring throughout the first year of employment

  • —Advanced certification available

Educational and Experience Requirements

 

  • —Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing and have less than one year of acute care nursing experience (please include official transcript of degree)

  • —Must have RN license or be licensed-eligible in the state

  • —Out-of-state new graduates must have NCLEX scheduled by the time the apprenticeship program begins

Hours

  • —Determined based on rotation of care

 

Commitment

  • —The nurse apprenticeship program is a two-year commitment (one year training and one year of home care work depending on placement)

  • —Must attend all classes and finish all course work to complete the program

COVID-19 EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: COVID-19 vaccine is a condition of employment with Hawaii Care Choices. After receiving a final offer of employment, all prospective HiCARE employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. All new employees are required to provide confirmation of their vaccinated status by presenting a CDC card or VAMS certificate prior to their start date.
