Who's eligible to join?

Who we can welcome

To live at our home, residents should:

  • Be able to walk or move around independently, with the help of a cane or walker if needed.

  • Need just a little to moderate help with daily activities like dressing, bathing, or meals.

  • Feel comfortable living in a shared, friendly home environment.

  • Have a health exam from a licensed medical provider completed within the last 3 months.

  • Provide a recent two-step TB clearance or chest X-ray from the past year.

Before admission, our Administrator or Charge Nurse will meet with the prospective resident to ensure our care home is the right fit.

When we may not be the right fit

We are not able to accept individuals with serious psychiatric conditions or challenging behaviors that require specialized care. If a resident's needs change over time, and we can no longer safely support them, we will work closely with their doctor and family to find the most appropriate next step. We also cannot admit anyone with contagious illnesses that we are unable to safely manage.

About payments

Pōhai Mālama Care Home is a private-pay care home. If you have long-term care insurance, it may help cover part—or all—of the cost, depending on your plan. We’ll provide the paperwork you need to submit to your insurance provider.

Welcoming new residents to Pōhai Mālama Care Home
