  • What is an Adult Residential Care Home (ARCH)?
An Adult Residential Care Home, or ARCH, is a licensed home that provides 24-hour care in a peaceful, family-style setting. It’s a comforting place for kūpuna who may need a little extra help with daily activities—like bathing, dressing, or taking medication—but do not require full-time nursing care. At Pōhai Mālama, we offer gentle support, companionship, and a true sense of home, so each resident can live with dignity, safety, and aloha.
  • Am I eligible?
Pōhai Mālama is a wonderful place for those who need a little extra help with everyday things like bathing, getting dressed, enjoying nourishing meals, or managing medications. Whether living with a chronic health condition, facing mobility challenges, or experiencing memory changes, our residents receive gentle support in a safe, comforting environment. Our home is best for those without the need for full-time medical care. We encourage you to reach out if you would like to see if you are a good fit.
  • What is the cost?
The monthly rate is $12,500, which covers all services and care provided at Pōhai Mālama. We are a private-pay home, and if you have long-term care insurance, your policy may help with reimbursement. We’re happy to help guide you through the process.
  • Do you offer short-term stays?
Yes, we welcome short-term stays! If you or someone you care for needs a little extra support while a family caregiver takes a well-deserved rest or vacation, Pōhai Mālama is here. We offer short-term visits from a one-week minimum up to three weeks. Please note, we are not able to offer hourly or day rates at this time.
  • Do you accept any type of medical insurance?
We are a private-pay home. However, if you have long-term care insurance, your policy may help with reimbursement. We’re happy to help guide you through the paperwork and process.
  • Are visitors allowed?
Yes, we welcome your visits! ʻOhana and friends are a cherished part of life at Pōhai Mālama. We encourage you to stay connected and spend quality time with your loved one. Our visiting hours are flexible to support your schedule while making sure our residents feel cared for and comfortable.
  • Can residents bring their own furniture and personal belongings?
Yes, absolutely! We encourage our residents to bring special items from home—like favorite furniture, cherished photos, and personal decorations—to help create a space that feels cozy, familiar, and truly theirs. It’s important that each suite feels like home from the moment you walk in.
  • How are meals and dietary needs managed?
At Pōhai Mālama, we serve nutritious, home-style meals that are thoughtfully prepared to meet each resident’s tastes and health needs. Meal plans are created by a certified nutritionist to meet your specific health needs, and prepared in our certified kitchen. Whether it’s low-sodium, diabetic-friendly, or texture-modified, our team is here to make sure every meal is both nourishing and ʻono.
